Had the extreme privilege to meet and record Rutha Mae Harris, along with her brother Emory Harris, speaking and singing from the porch of their home and from the Old Mt. Zion Church, in Albany, Georgia. Rutha is among the four original members of the Freedom Singers, the group who in 1962, formed to write and perform re-appropriated hymns and spirituals during the Civil Rights Movement. The group's aim was to educate communities in the South through song, advocating for equality and peace. • FLOATING (2011)

Design Loves Art Exhibit, Los Angeles, CA
    Curated by Paul Young

This piece was compiled from recordings of as many different sources of running water as we could find - streams, drainage pipes, sinks, showers, gutters, and the ocean, to name a few. The multichannel recordings were weaved into a "swimming" mix that navigates from harsh, impersonal white noise to the more homely, familiar sounds of household plumbing. The overall effect aims to reinforce the video's themes of limbo, ambivalence, cleansing, and modern mass-consumption runoff.

  • RARA LAKAY

Originating back to 18th Century colonial Haiti, Rara is a form of Haitian roots music born out of and usually played during Carnival season. Rara Lakay is one of the few groups in the world actively keeping this traditional form of music alive, and are having a lot of fun while doing so. We recorded several tunes during an afternoon procession in their hometown of Little Haiti, Miami.

  • DOWN UNDER GOATS GRUFF BRIDGE (2009)

Manhattan Bridge Grand Arch, DUMBO, Brooklyn
Curated by Artlog for Collect DUMBO

Created an eerie underworld soundscape for this modern retelling of the classic folk tale. A lumbering, 20-foot tall projected Troll patrolled the cavernous underbelly of the Manhattan Bridge for the duration of a single evening. The creature's enormous, booming footsteps were supplied by wirelessly syncing two huge combo bass amplifiers, built into the goat "cages" on either side of the Troll.

  • HOLY COW (2009)

    Castle Braid Gallery, Brooklyn
In some religions the cow is considered a sacred animal. The Holy Cow is no exception. This 12 minute long piece was designed to support the experiential installation Holy Cow, for the entirety of its 3 week run at Castle Braid in Brooklyn. Adding sound to this normally silent piece provided an extended context for the otherwise fairly simple work. The resulting image was that of a full outdoor backwoods barbecue, affecting something between a commentary on industrialized meat production and utter aloneness.
